For Windows 9x and Windows ME Users

These instructions represent an installation from start to finish. Your machine might already have some of these options installed. Please skip those sections accordingly.

               1.Install Your Particular Modem

    1. Click-On the "START" button
    2. Click-On "SETTINGS"
    3. Click-On "Control Panel"
    4. Double-Click on "Modems"; If you have a very common Modem, let the Install Wizard "pick" it for you, otherwise find your modem from the list
    5. Click-On "FINISH"
    6. Highlight the modem and select "Properties"
    7. Under the "GENERAL" tab, insure that the Baud Rate is appropriate for your modem
    8. Single-Click on "OK" to return to the Modem Properties Screen
    9. Single-Click on "OK" to finish the modem installation

      At this point, Setup Wizard might prompt for the Win95 install CD or diskettes and then ask to reboot, select "NO" for the reboot option.

             2. Install and Configure Dial-Up Adapters

    1. Click-On the "START" button
    2. Click-On "SETTINGS"
    3. Click-On "Control Panel"
    4. Double-Click on the "Add/Remove Programs" icon
    5. Click-On "Windows Setup" tab
    6. Double-Click on the "Communications" icon
    7. Check the box labeled "Dial-Up Netwoking"
    8. Click-On "OK" to close the "Communications" window
    9. Click-On "OK" to close the "Add/Remove Programs Properties" window

      At this point, you might be prompted to insert source diskettes or CD-ROM.

    10. Click-On the X to close the "Control Panel" window
    11. Double-Click on the "My Computer" icon
    12. Double-Click on the "Dial-Up Networking" icon
    13. Choose: "Make a new Connection" (if it does not automatically start)

      At this point, the Setup Wizard will ask you to type a name for the COMPUTER that you will be dialing. example: company or cat
    14. Under select a modem, insure that this reflects the modem you installed from step 1
    15. Click-On "NEXT"
    16. Insert the modem pool number (113 for ETL network) and ( 021260113-260143 for another network) .
    17. Click-On "NEXT"
    18. Click-On "FINISH"

               3. Configure TCPIP

    1. Click-On the "START" button
    2. Click-On "SETTINGS"
    3. Click-On "Control Panel"
    4. Double-Click on the "Network" icon; Under The Dial-UP Adapter, look for the protocol TCPIP; if it is not there, make sure that the DIAL-UP ADAPTER is highlighted
      1. Click on "ADD"
      2. Click on "PROTOCOL"
      3. Click on "MICROSOFT"
      4. Click on "TCP/IP";this will then return you to the Network Screen
    5. Click on "OK" to exit Network Setup
    6. Insert CD or diskettes as appropriate and reboot

      You are now ready to PPP.

              4. How to PPP in Win 9x:

    1. Select "MY Computer"
    2. Select "Dial-Up Networking"
    3. Double-Click on the icon you created for "Name that you make Dialup"
    4. Insert your PPP Username and Password (these are case sensitive)
    5. Click on "Connect"

      At this point, Win9x will dial and connect to the Remote Dialup Pool. After the connected screen comes up, you may start any Ulnet v4.2 Application.
        5. How to disconnect in Windows 9x (hanging-up)
    1. Depress and continue holding the <ALT> key while pressing the <TAB> key until the window labeled "Connected to U of L Remote Dialup" appears
    2. Release the <ALT> key
    3. Click-On the button labeled "Disconnect" to close your session

  For Windows NT 4.0 Users

These instructions represent an installation from start to finish. Your machinemight already have some of these options installed. Please skip those sectionsaccordingly.

    1. Install Networking Software:

      1. Click-On the "START" button.
      2. Click-On "SETTINGS".
      3. Click-On "Control Panel".
      4. Double-Click on "Network". This will start the network Setup Wizard.
      5. Choose only "Remote access to the network:".
      6. Click-On "Next" to bypass the Network Adapter Search Screen.
      7. Choose only the protocol TCP/IP Protocol from the Network Protocol Screen.
      8. Ensure Remote Access Service is highlighted on the Review Screen.
      9. Insert Windows NT 4.0 CD-ROM/Diskettes as prompted.
      10. Choose "YES" to "USE DHCP" option.
      11. Select your modem from the ADD RAS Device screen. If you have a very common Modem, let the Install Wizard "pick" it for you, otherwise find your modem from the list.
      12. Select "NEXT" to start the remote network.
      13. Insert a Computer Name to identify your machine on the Network.
      14. Insert the name "UofL" as your dialup Workgroup.
      15. Click-On "FINISH".
      16. Allow the Setup Wizard to reboot your machine.

    2. Setup Dial-up Networking

      1. Double-Click on "My Computer".
      2. Double-Click on "Dial-Up Networking".
      3. Click-On "NEW".
      4. Add "U of L Remote Access" as a new phonebook entry.
      5. Check "I am calling the Internet" and "Send my plain text password if that is the only way to connect".
      6. Enter the Remote Access Phone Number (113 for ETL network) and ( 021260113-260143 for another network) .
      7. Click-On "Finish".

    3. How to PPP in Windows NT 4.0

      1. Click-On "Dial", to dial the new service.
      2. Under Username put in your Remote Access Logon id (type-case sensitive).
      3. Under Password put in your Remote Accesss Password (type-case sensitive).
      4. Leave Domain Blank and Click-On OK to dial.
      5. An "Authenticated" message will verify that you have properly logged onto the Network.
      6. You may now run any of the Ulnet Applications.

    4. How to disconnet in Windows NT 4.0:(hanging-up)

      1. Right-Click on the icon you created for dialing-in.
      2. Click-On "Hangup".

      For Windows XP Users

      These instructions represent an installation from start to finish. Your machine might already have some of these options installed. Please skip those sections accordingly.

      1. Install your particular modem.
      2. Start the Network Connection Wizard
    1. Press "START",
    2. Click-on "Control Panel",
    3. Double-Click on the "Network and Internet Connections" or the "Network Connections" Icon . If networking was not previously installed, you will now be prompted to install all networking from scratch.
    4. If you clicked on the " Network and Internet Connections" Icon please click on the "Network Connections" Icon
    5. Double-Click the Icon labeled " Create a new connection ".
    6. Click-on "Next".
    7. Select "Connect to the Internet"
    8. Click-on "Next".
    9. Select the "Setup my connection manually" option
    10. Click-on "Next".
    11. Select the "Connect using a dial-up modem" option
    12. Click-on "Next".
    13. Enter a name for this connection ( example ETL or yourname )
    14. Click-on "Next".
    15. Enter the Remote phone (113 for ETL network) and ( 021260113-260143 for another network) .
    16. Click-on "Next".
    17. Enter your username and password
    18. Click-on "Next".
    19. Click on the box beside "Add a shortcut to this connection to my desktop"
    20. Click-on "Finish".

        For Windows 2000 Users

      These instructions represent an installation from start to finish. Your machine might already have some of these options installed. Please skip those sections accordingly.

      1. Install your particular modem.
      2. Start the Network Connection Wizard

      Press "START",

      Click-on "SETTINGS",

      Click-on "Control Panel",

      Double-Click on the "Network and Dialup Connection" ICON. If networking was not previously installed, you will now be prompted to install all networking from scratch.

      Double-Click the Icon labeled " Make New Conection ".

      Click-on "Next".

      Select "Dial-Up to my private network"

      Click-on "Next".

      Select the modem or port you wish to use connect.

      Click-on "Next".

      Enter the Remote phone (113 for ETL network) and ( 021260113-260143 for another network) .

      Click-on "Next".

      Instruct the wizard whether to make this profile globally or locally available.

      Click-on "Next".

      Name the profile (I prefer "connect to UofL.net Remote")
